Another successful London Week
Just before Easter the third year students had their 'London Week'. The year group was split in two and each group visited one agency a day. In total the cohort visited 10 agencies in 10 days.
Some of the agencies set briefs the week before and ran a crit when the students arrived. Some agencies were even more demanding and set a brief in the morning and then critiqued the work in the afternoon. A couple of the agencies gave presentations on how to get a job in advertising, showed some of their recent work & gave advice on portfolio content, industry expectations & how to successfully make the transition from University to career.

As you can see it really was quite a week!
Thank you SO much to all everyone at the agencies who helped organise the week. We simply couldn't have done it without you. The vast majority of these were past University of Lincoln Creative Advertising graduates so you see how it goes: come to Lincoln > graduate from Lincoln > get a placement (or two or three) > get a job at a top agency > keep in touch with the staff team in Lincoln > help the next generation of creative talent. You get the idea.
Next up for the third years, pull everything together that they've learned in Lincoln and London and prepare for their portfolios for final assessment. And then it's the degree show (and Private View party).
Nice.
Class of 2012 Graduation
Last Wednesday saw the University of Lincoln Creative Advertising students attend the 2012 Graduation Ceremony in Lincoln's historic Cathedral. The event is always a great display of pomp and ceremony with odd shaped hats and colourful robes in abundance. The proceedings were conducted in time honoured fashion and were a fitting celebration of three years hard work and dedication.
It's always good to catch up with the graduates in September and it was very satisfying to hear how successful they are being in their quest for a career in advertising. Work placements at prestigious ad agencies like AMVBBDO, Grey and VCCP are commonplace whilst other students are based at up and coming new agencies like the corner.
Whilst the graduates may have left Lincoln, the Creative Advertising programme always maintains strong links with our ex-students and it is with great interest that we watch their careers develop, so well done to all of the graduates and here's to the future.
Suddenly it started raining hats.

Graduates win digital award
2010 Lincoln Creative Advertising graduate team Jan Pruijser & Rachel Clough have won the Ocean Outdoor Digital Billboard competition with their 'Back to the Hedgerow' augmented reality work for Westfield shopping centre.
Here's Jan to tell you all about it:-
'Since we graduated in 2010 we've had some great placements at Grand Union, Big Ideas Online, Albion and now we're at Grey.'
'A little while ago one of our account handlers for Jordan's Cereals asked if we wanted to have a crack at a competition brief for Ocean Outdoor. They supply advertising space on digital billboards across the UK.
'So a quick background on Jordan’s Cereal: they are all about the wildlife, they even set aside 10% of all their farmland to make homes for them.'
'We approached the brief in a very open-minded manner and tried to create something that would communicate the message whilst focusing on being engaging and rewarding for the user. We could spend ages explaining the idea but it's probably better (and definitely clearer) if you watch the video below...'
'We won first prize! (you can see the other winners here).'

'The prize included £150,000 in media spend on Ocean Outdoor digital billboards. But the best part…£1000 of Apple vouchers! So we went straight down to Regent Street and purchased lovely new shiney iPads. Now for the hard part - getting it all made within budget...!'
Well done, Jan & Rachel. That really is fantastic news and another fine win for Lincoln Creative Advertising graduates.
